There is a common language between the musicians on this album strongly related to the location where it is recorded because Álafosskvos, a tiny community within Mosfellsbær a little outside Reykjavik, became home to Gaukur when he returned to Iceland from America for a few months after the passing of his father in 2019.

Gaukur found a small apartment located on the very bridge over the beautiful stream next to Sundlaugin Studio where so much amazing Icelandic music has been recorded. Just up the hill he would find Davíð Þór in his home playing Bach on the piano, cooking or usually both at the same time for his closest friends and family.

The recordings on this album give the listener a sense of what is happening in the room but also the friendship behind it. Skúli and Davíð Þór followed Gaukur wherever he was going in the so it didn’t take long for each song to be realized in the moment. First idea, best idea.

To me Davíðsson about simple things. Feeling at home. Having food especially made for the occasion. The brink of tears when sharing important things. The relief of laughter. The title Davíðsson refers to Gaukur’s father, Davíð Sigurðsson (a horse trainer who died at work in 2019). I feel blessed having witnessed some of it in the making.
